Race Across AMerica!

The Georgia Chain Gang will be competing in RAAM again in 2010! This legendary ultra-endurance cycling event has been challenging and inspiring solo and team riders every year since 1982. We will ride again as a 4-man in the 50-59 age bracket. We will also be racing again as a Team-in-Training team, with a goal of raising $200,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Here’s our team of riders with our honorary fifth team member - Brennan Simkins. Brennan is 7 years old and a Leukemia patient. Brennan is the true hero of our team and represents all those kids and adults who are bravely battling blood cancers right now.

The 2010 race starts June 12th in Oceanside, CA, the route is over 3,000 miles long, climbs over 100,000 feet and runs through 16 states, ending in Annapolis Maryland. Teams ride in rotating shifts 24 hours a day and finish the race in 6 to 9 days.

Unlike other famous races such as the Tour de France, RAAM is not a multi-stage race. The race is a single stage, 24 hours/day, start to finish.  In RAAM, the clock starts on the west coast and it doesn’t stop until racers cross the finish line on the east coast. Riders catch food and sleep as they can, since there are no scheduled breaks. RAAM is 35% longer than the Tour de France, but solo riders finish RAAM in 9 days, compared to 23 days for the Tour de France. Our four-man team hopes to finish in 6-9 days.

We could really use your help. If you’d like to support our team and help fight leukemia and lymphoma, please click the logo below and donate now!
